Project Overview
Cochran & Mann teamed up with Forrester Construction to build the Public Recreational Facility Aquatic Center at The Southern Regional Technology and Recreation Complex. The complex is an award-winning, 37,000-square-foot technology and recreation facility. Spaces at this facility include a suspended indoor track, rock climbing wall, multipurpose rooms, kitchens, classrooms, and now an indoor swimming pool.
The aquatic facility is approximately 13,770 square feet. It includes a reception area, three bodies of water, a leisure/lap pool, multipurpose room, large locker/restrooms, staff offices, a vending area, and more.
The Cochran & Mann team was in charge of painting the exposed structure over the entire indoor swimming pool. The project also included painting the administrative areas, locker rooms, and mechanical support areas.
Challenges
The Cochran & Mann team rose to the many challenges this project presented. Due to the configuration and design of the aquatic center, accessibility to exposed structure over the pool area was difficult. By utilizing specialized lift equipment, the team was able to work on the exposed ceiling.
The shop primer delivered by the metal deck supplier did not work with the coating applied to the ceiling. To handle this, the ceiling decking was reprimed prior to starting the project.
The Result
The Cochran & Mann team overcame obstacles to deliver a beautiful, bright space as an addition to the incredible complex. Completed on schedule, the aquatic center is now ready for use.
