Project Overview
Cochran & Mann restored a full-service fitness center in an existing high-rise residence building located in Arlington, Virgina. This space consisted of full Precor and free weight workout equipment, racquetball courts, and a golf simulator. To further the design details of the space, fitness-related signage, glass film, and hand-painted murals were required for the project.
The owners of this space wanted to create a unique design equal in beauty to the facility. Cochran & Mann worked with enerG to create a boxer-themed wall design and a hand-painted mural. For the wall nearest the facility's new boxing and workout equipment, ownership wanted a mural depicting famous boxers from their time. The "sled area" space of the gym needed a brick wall mural meant to inspire and motivate. This mural was originally planned to have a distressed-style inspirational quote hand-painted directly on the brick.
Results
These proposed designs did not come without challenges. Due to copyright infringements, the boxer wall design had to be improvised and made to be "nameless" without losing its likeness and effectiveness. In order to keep the theme consistent, the brick mural was changed to original and local barn siding, which the hand-painted quote was added to seamlessly.
All of the sign posters were printed on aluminum and clear-coated to help protect the finish. A lot of workouts happen in this area!
